8.P.1.2. Students are able to use the Periodic Table to compare and contrast families of
elements and to classify elements as metals, metalloids, or non-metals.
8.P.1.3. Students are able to compare properties of matter resulting from physical and chemical
changes.

Monday

	Understand how elements in the periodic table are arranged.
	Identify the chemical symbols of elements.
	Identify the different parts of an atom.
	Determine the atomic number, atomic mass, & the # of protons, neutrons and electrons for each atom.

Assignment: Background Research Plan due. Finish Memory Techniques. Element Symbol Quiz #2 (23). Atoms Family PowerPoint/Notes (25). Atom Song Video.

Tuesday

	Atoms are made of extremely tiny particles called protons, neutrons, and electrons.
	Protons and neutrons are in the center of the atom, making up the nucleus.
	Electrons surround the nucleus.
	Protons have a positive charge.
	Electrons have a negative charge.

Assignment: Atoms Family Atomic Math Challenge (26).

Wednesday

Develop memory devices for 25 element symbols.

Assignment: Element Symbol Quiz #3(24).

Thursday

	Research the history of similar experiments or inventions.
	Research definitions of all important words and concepts that describe science project.
	Answer all background research plan questions.

Assignment: Background Research Plan. Research for science fair project.

Friday
