6.P.1.1. Students are able to identify the subatomic particles that make up atoms.
6.P.1.2. Students are able to classify matter based on physical and chemical properties.
6.N.1.3. Students are able to describe phase changes in matter differentiating between the particle motion in solids, liquids, and gases.

Monday President's Day - No School!  
Tuesday
  • Define matter.
  • Describe the states of matter.
  • Understand the basic vocabulary of solid, liquid, and gas.
  • Describe the characteristics of each state.
  • Give examples of each state from daily life.
  • Understand that solids and liquids occupy much less space than gases.

Assignment:  Solid, Liquid, or Gas Lab

 
Wednesday
  • Compare and contrast the properties of a compound.
  • Recognize elements and compounds as pure substances.
  • Identify compounds as substances made of two or more elements chemically combined.

Assignment:  Discuss details of compounds. Elements, Compounds, and Mixtures presentation and WS Solid, Liquid, or Gas Lab due. 

 
Thursday
  • Compare and contrast the properties of a compound.
  • Recognize elements and compounds as pure substances.
  • Identify compounds as substances made of two or more elements chemically combined.
  • Identify mixtures as substances made up of two or more pure substances that are not chemically combined.
  • Compare homogeneous and heterogeneous mixtures.

Assignment:  Elements, Compounds, and Mixtures review

 
Friday
  • Organize information in a notebook.

Assignment:  Correct Notebook.
