8.P.1.2. Students are able to use the Periodic Table to compare and contrast families of
elements and to classify elements as metals, metalloids, or non-metals.
8.P.1.3. Students are able to compare properties of matter resulting from physical and
chemical changes.

8.E.1.5. Students are able to explain the impact of weathering and erosion on the Earth.

Monday

	Interpret data from the periodic table.
	Use atomic number and atomic mass to describe the structure of an atom.
	Determine the number of protons, neutrons, and electrons for each element.
	Identify basic subatomic particles-protons, neutrons, and electrons-that make up an atom.
	Recognize that atoms have a numeric relationship in the periodic table.
	Understand the connection between energy levels and valence electrons to the shape of periodic table.
	Learn the vocabulary that corresponds with matter.

Assignment: Review Periodic Table Basics. Purple Words. Match definitions to correct vocabulary word in notebook. Draw picture to match vocabulary word - due Thursday.

Tuesday

Use the 6 + 1 writing trait, "organization".

	Use an inviting lead that "hooks" the reader.
	Place supporting details so that they fit.
	Use logical and effective structure, order, and sequence.
	Give information at just the right moment.
	Use smooth transitions to help the ideas flow together.

Assignment: Bibliography and Introduction.

Wednesday

Assignment: Purple Words Due. Atom title page due. Purple Words Quiz.

Friday

	Describe how ice, water, wind, gravity, plants, and animals cause mechanical weathering.
	Describe how water, acids, and air cause chemical weathering of rocks.

Assignment: Introduction and Bibliography due. Read/OL 278-283. Outline Help. Take 6 pictures of weathering around your home. Get one baggy of soil.
