Monday

  • Ask questions.

  • Collect and organize data.

  • Define surface tension.

  • Determine what factors affect surface tension.

  • Learn about controls, constants, and variables in experiments.
  • Review what constitutes valid experimental procedure.

Assignment:  Analyze and Conclude Drops on a Penny Lab.  Notebook - purple words due.

Tuesday
  • Work together to gather evidence and make conclusions.
  • Make Accurate and complete observations of soil samples.
  • Identify the similarities and differences between soils.
  • Describe the samples completely enough to be identified by someone else.

Assignment:  Soil Brainstorming.  Observations of soils. 

Wednesday
  • Develop a definition of soil based on observations and descriptions - soil consists of weathered rocks and decomposed organic material from dead plants, animals, and bacteria.

  • Investigate the pH of soil.

Assignment:  Definition of soil. 

Thursday
  • Describe the source of soil.

  • Explain how the different properties of soil affect plant growth.

  • Describe how various climates affect soil.

Assignment:  Soil Columns.  Read 288-293.  18 detail stickies.

Friday
  • Investigate the composition soil by separating it into layers with water.

  • Create and observe a water-and-soil column.

Assignment:  Measure Soil Columns.
