  • Explain the importance of the International System of Units, and give four examples of SI units.
  • Practice measuring using metric units - centimeters and millimeters.
  • Review the history of the metric system.

Assignment: International System of Units Presentation, ladder method, and Notes (14).  Correct notebook (15-notebook rubric).

Wednesday
  • Explain the importance of the International System of Units.
  • Determine appropriate units to use for particular measurements.
  • Identify lab safety symbols, and determine what they mean.
  • Incorporate the International System of Units in labs.
  • Estimate lengths of objects using metric units.
  • Estimate the mass of objects using metric units.
  • Review correct way to use a triple beam balance.
  • Learn the parts of a triple beam balance.
  • Review how to determine the volume of a regular object using the formula: length x width x height.
  • Define the term "meniscus".
  • Review how to read a graduated cylinder using the meniscus.
  • Determine the volume of an irregular object using water displacement.
