Monday

  • Explain the importance of the International System of Units.
  • Determine appropriate units to use for particular measurements.
  • Identify lab safety symbols, and determine what they mean.
  • Incorporate the International System of Units in labs.
  • Estimate lengths of objects using metric units.
  • Estimate the mass of objects using metric units.
  • Review correct way to use a triple beam balance.
  • Learn the parts of a triple beam balance.
  • Review how to determine the volume of a regular object using the formula: length x width x height.
  • Define the term "meniscus".
  • Review how to read a graduated cylinder using the meniscus.
  • Determine the volume of an irregular object using water displacement.

Assignment:  Metric Stations Lab (16).

Tuesday
  • Record prior knowledge of atoms.

Assignment:  Review metric stations.  Atom brainstorming (17).

Wednesday
  • Describe the arrangement of the elements in the periodic table.  

Assignment:   Observations of the Periodic Table of Elements (19).

Thursday
  • Identify the chemical symbols of elements.
  • Understand how elements in the periodic table are arranged.

Assignment:  Color periodic table (18) of elements - metals, metalloids, nonmetals. Element Song.  Element Challenge #1.  15 Periodic table words (20).

Friday
  • Identify the chemical symbols of elements.
  • Understand how elements in the periodic table are arranged.

Assignment:  Element Challenge #2.
